Some 3200 years had passed the maha parinivana of the Buddha when a Tibetan Nyigma master Geshe Dorjee Zhonnu had fathered five sons. He was selected along with six other brilliant youth by the their king of Guge region and sent to India for higher Buddhist studies. Later, he escorted the famous translator Rinchen Sangpo and rendered several original Sanskrit text into Tibetan. He had studied under several famous teachers such as Atisha. In the year 1074 he founded the Ninthog Monastery University at Sangphu. After he passed away, he is believed to have reincarnated into the series of Dagyab Chungtsang Rinpoche. The first Chungtsang Rinpoche named Sange Tashi was born in 1588 at the Gyalog Washik Jogan in Dakyap. He was appointed the head lama of the Gangkar Dechen Monastery by the great fifth Dalai Lama, later he also ascended to the top rank at Dulwa monastery in Gyalok. He passed away in 1652.

The second Chungtsang Rinpoche Dakpa Choezin was born at Wobum in Dakyap; he passed away at the age of 26.

The third Chungtsang Rinpoche, Lobsang Tenpa, was born at Gojo Lhathog. He left behind three volumes of work, which consisted of a biography of his predecessor. He passed away at age of 57.

The fourth in the linage, Lobsang Kalsang Wangchuk, was born at Dakyab. He passed away at the age of 34, no written record was found.

The fifth in the linage, Lobsang Tenpai Gyaltso, was born at Wobum in Dakyab; he passed away at the age of 81.

The sixth in the linage is Lobsang Thupen Kherab Palden Gyatso. He was born in Lhasa and passed away at the age of 32 on Tibetan royal year 15th month of 9th.

The seventh in the linage is Thupten Kalsang Triley Jigmey Gyasto who was born at Nyare Chudro. He was extraordinary at very tender age and in his childhood was proficient in clairvoyance. He passed away in 1958, the first earth dog year.

The eighth and present master in the linage is Tenzin Kalsang Jigmey. He was born in the year 1980 in Nepal to Mr. Tsering Wangdu and Mrs. Choekyi. He was recognized by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1986 at the holy site of Bodha Gaya and was the given the name above. After wards he headed to Drepung Monastery in South India where he took formal admission into Drepung Loseling Monastery on February 21st, 1987. A grand ceremony was done forhis enthronement and his labrang offered lunch for the dignitaries. Soon after he started his formal instructions into the basic Tibetan reading, writing and Buddhist Logic from his root Guru Dakyab Tokden Rinpoche, the present abbot of Gyuto monastery. In the year 1989 he received his novice ordination from the most venerable Dhenma Lochoe Rinpoche, former abbot of Namgyal Monastery. Since then he has been studying Buddhist philosophy and practices from his teachers including Dakyab Token Rinpoche and ex-abbot Tehore Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Nyima and late 12th Venerable Ling Gungbar Tulku Rinpoche (ex-abbot of Gyuto Monastery and teacher of Ling Rinpoche). In 1997 Rinpoche the debating ceremony exam on the wheel of Dharma in Drepung Monastery with one Tulku from Drepung Gomany Monastery. He completed his study on the perfection of Wisdom and is currently enrolled in his 2nd year of studying the middle path.
